Due to its unique characteristics, Biodentine (patented dentin substitute, composed mainly of pure tricalcium silicate) has become a world reference in 10 years. Its high bioactive properties allow the formation of hydroxyapatite and contribute to maintaining pulp vitality and its biocompatibility to reduce the risk of tissue and pulp reaction.
However, it could be criticized for its difficulty in mixing and applying. Today, the protocol is greatly simplified by the incorporation of the Biodentine molecule, identical in every way to the original, in a cartridge. Each cartridge contains the right amount of powder and liquid ready to be mixed in its dedicated mixer to obtain a homogeneous and reproducible consistency. The practitioner then simply applies directly to the tooth with the applicator gun or into the root with a manual instrument.
We could justify the need for an additional vibrator but none of those used by the practitioner in the office has the qualities necessary to ensure perfect consistency (high rotation of 6200 RPM associated with a sinusoidal movement and a speed which gradually increases up to reach its maximum speed).
Aware of this problem, Septodont designed it rounded, vertical with a limited footprint. Depending on the depth of the cavity, clinicians can choose between XP 200 and XP 500 for the right dose of product.
The dentin-like properties of Biodentine™ make it a material of choice as a corono-root dentin substitute. Also get in the habit of using all the available quantity to fill your cavity.
On the other hand, beyond 6 months the coronal seal is no longer ensured, it is then sufficient to cut the tooth in order to create your bonding with your usual composite. A starter pack provides clinicians with all the necessary components, including the mixer, applicator gun and Biodentine™ XP 200 and Biodentine™ XP 500 cartridges.
