The King Baudouin Stadium was in turmoil: it was this Friday that the mythical Ivo Van Damme Memorial was disputed, THE meeting place for Belgian athletics. Find here the main results of the evening.

Mondo Duplantis battu !

Big surprise in the pole vault competition! Armand Duplantis lost following three failed attempts at 5m91, bar crossed by the Filipino Ernest Obiena. The Swede had however won 46 of the last 48 competitions in which he had participated.

Belgian record for Cynthia Bolingo

Cynthia Bolingo won a fine third place and a superb time of 50.19 in the 400 meters, beating the Belgian record! The Dominican Fiordaliza Cofil won this lap.

Nafi Thiam 4e de la longueur, Vidts 6e

With a jump of 6m46, Nafi Thiam took 4th place in the long jump. Noor Vidts ranks 6th with a jump of 6m40, synonymous with a personal best.

Kevin Borlée wins the 400 meters

It is a very family 400 meters which was disputed on the stroke of 7:52 p.m. The opportunity for Kevin Borlée to afford a prestigious victory in the Diamond League, ahead of the Irishman O’Donnell, Alexander Doom and his brothers Jonathan and Dylan.

Julien Watrin sets the Belgian record for 400m hurdles

Author of a superb season, Julien Watrin put the icing on the cake by taking a nice 5th place and above all the Belgian record in the 400 hurdles in 48.66! World champion in Eugene, Brazilian Alison dos Santos won in a time of 47.54.

Crestan approaches Ivo Van Damme’s 800m record

Briton Jake Wightman won the 800 meters in 1.43.65 ahead of Sedjati and Korir. Belgian Eliott Crestan took a superb 4th place in 1m44.24s, beating his personal best by several tenths of a second. The Namurois is thus approaching the Belgian record of Ivo Van Damme (1.43.86), to whom this meeting pays tribute every year.

Best world performance of the year on 5000m for Jacob Krop

The 21-year-old Kenyan Jacob Krop achieved the best world performance of the year by winning the 5000 meters from the Van Damme Memorial in a time of 12:45.71.

Meeting record for Camacho-Quinn

The Puerto Rican Jasmin Camacho-Quinn easily won the women’s 100 meter hurdles in 12.27, beating the previous meeting record by 15 hundredths!

Record of the meeting and the United States for Kara Winger in the javelin

Kara Winger put in a top performance Friday evening at the Van Damme Memorial by winning the javelin throw with a throw measured at 68m11.

Ciara Mageean dominates the women’s 1500m, Vanderelst 11th

Irish Ciara Mageean won the 1500 meters in 3.56.63 ahead of Laura Muir and Lemlem Hailu. Belgian Elise Vanderelst took eleventh place in 4.04.60, her best time of the season.

Yaroslava Mahuchikh is approaching the world record at the height

Yaroslava Mahuchikh made the King Baudouin Stadium vibrate by rubbing shoulders with the world record for height at 2m10. The Ukrainian seemed to have this mythical record in her legs but she failed three times following being the only one to cross 2m05. The world record at 2m09 has belonged to the Bulgarian Stefka Kostadinova since 1987!

France’s Amandine Brossier beats the Cheetahs in the 400m B

The French Amandine Brossier won the 400 meters B of the Memorial Van Damme. Camille Laus took 5th place in 52.93, ahead of Imke Vervaet (53.00), Paulien Couckuyt (53.45) and Nina Hespel (54.47).
