With “Moment 2”, Microsoft is rolling out a whole bunch of new features for PC and tablet users.
Every month, Microsoft deploys new minor updates for its operating system, Windows 11. But at the same time, the Redmond firm relies on “Moments”, more important updates that bring many new features, both in terms of functionality and security. Since Tuesday, the “Moment 2” update has been rolled out to users. Also called KB5023706the update was initially published on an optional basis.
Improvement of the search box, Windows Hello, or even the appearance of advice on energy consumption, here is the list of the main new features of this important update:
- The Search bar located in the taskbar is the main improvement of this update. When you write a search, the results appear in a new floating popup that is now fully customizable. To do this, go to Settings, the Personalization menu, then Taskbar. Companies even benefit from additional options to apply to all machines.
- In order to reduce the consumption of your computer and therefore your carbon footprint, Windows will now offer you feeding recommendations. In the System Settings, Power and Battery Recommendations tab, Windows will then submit these tips to you, which can obviously also allow you to slightly reduce your energy bill.
- Windows has a Improved task manager, now able to filter processes by publisher name, binary name or even PID (process identifier). There are also new customization options related to the Windows theme.
- Improved reliability following an update. Some users were experiencing some bugs and machine crashes following installing an important update. Microsoft seems to have understood where the problem came from and indicates to have corrected it.
- When you open the camera, Windows Studio, i.e. the set of AI-powered features intended to “present you in a better light”, is more easily accessible. Background blurring, eye contact, auto framing and audio effects are affected by this quick access. On the other hand, it is necessary to have a machine equipped with a compatible neural processing unit (NPU).
- If you have any problems with any component of your machine, thegetting help is faster and more easily accessible, by having assistance directly from the Start menu applications.
- Two-in-one devices that can be converted to touch devices now havean optimized taskbar. There are now two different states for this bar, namely contracted and extended. The first mode offers a smaller taskbar, providing more touch screen space for the user. Swiping up or down at the bottom of the screen switches between the two modes.
- The system tray is finally modernized and embellished, with rounded icons that will give a brief overview of their info when hovering over them.
- In terms of accessibility, voice commands are improved and able to recognize controls with numbers (“Click 5”) or names with special characters (“Click Up Hyphen”).
