All the DTT channels that will disappear from your TV if you don’t switch to HD

  • This is the date on which DTT will disappear in Spain: HD arrives
  • These will be the televisions that will stop working due to the change in DTT

You only have to take a look at the vast majority of digital terrestrial television (DTT) systems in other European countries to realize that, unfortunately, Spanish is quite behind. And in France or Germany they have been coexisting with high definition standards for quite some time, which are all those that equal or exceed HD resolution (1,280 x 720 pixels). The reasons? Old televisions in homes and lack of adaptation of the equipment used by the networks.

These factors caused the Government of Spain to be forced to postpone the arrival date of DTT in HD. Originally, Its implementation was scheduled for January 1, 2023., but it had to be delayed until February 14, 2024. Just over a year of extension in which all stations have had to catch up. Otherwise, their broadcasts will cease and they will disappear from users’ televisions. This is what is known as “the blackout” of DTT.

Specifically, the channels that will no longer be tunable in the televisions HD Ready will be those that still use SD standards or Small Definition, that is, low definition. Specifically, we refer to all those who still broadcast their content in 480p (858 x 480 pixels) and, to a lesser extent, 240p (352 x 240 pixels) resolution formats. As often happens, there are those who have already done their homework, while others have run out of time.

What channels will disappear?

Firstly, the SD channels of the general channels (La 1, La 2, Antena 3, Cuatro, Telecinco and LaSexta). However, all of them have had for years HD versions broadcasting through DTT, so you only need to retune the television and place them in the first places on the grid so as not to notice the effects of the blackout on February 14. The same can be said regarding most of the regional channels, although not all of them have high definition channels available yet.

The case of RTVE’s La 1 is special, since the public entity has announced that, as of February 7 (the original scheduled date was February 14, but it has been brought forward a week), it will begin regular broadcasts of La 1 UHD, whose contents will be in 4K. It will be the first and, for the moment, the only station that adapts this resolution format, which has the capacity to get the most out of the most current television screens.

For their part, all the channels that to date only broadcast in SD will disappear from the television. This will be the case, specifically, of:

  • FDF.
  • Divinity.
  • Energy.
  • BeMad.
  • Nova.
  • Neox.
  • Mega.
  • Dkiss.
  • Dmax.
  • Dkiss.
  • Ten.
  • TV is on.
  • telesport
  • Clan.

All these channels will disappear on February 14 from the televisions of Spanish homes. Yes indeed, their emissions will not stop, but they will begin to broadcast in high definition on the same or other frequencies. To enjoy them you will only have to retune the television, which should not take more than a couple of minutes. Of course, as long as the television is compatible with the DVB-T2 standard, which can be checked in the instruction manual or by doing a quick search for the model on the manufacturer’s website.
