With All Saints’ Day fast approaching, many people will be visiting the graves of their deceased in the coming days or are already going there this weekend. But in Mettet, the cemeteries of Biesme and Devant-les-Bois recently saw their paths covered in mud making them impassable.
Between the end of September and the beginning of October, municipal workers removed gravel to plant grass. “It is a mixture of dwarf clover and grass which should ideally be sown in autumn”, according to the alderman of the Cemeteries, Jean-Benoît Ruth. But with the showers that have fallen in recent days, it is clear that the seeds have taken on water.

We learned this Saturday that the problem was resolved. “Pine bark was dumped in the paths to make them more accessible. Residents had suggested placing boards but this might have caused falls, indicates the alderman. However, it was necessary to put things into perspective: this problem concerned 20% of the Biesme cemetery, i.e. its upper part, and 10% of that of Devant-les-Bois, where it will be resolved by Monday.”
