The current year 2023 has already turned out to be rich in crash tests. Testers from around the world have broken a whole bunch of new models, many of which are sold to Russia. Moreover, most of the crash tests were conducted not by experts from the well-known Euro NCAP, but by experts from similar independent organizations. Autonews.ru studied how the most important novelties for our market have been tested lately. First of all, we will talk regarding models that have already reached Russia through parallel imports.

C-NCAP

In China, they began to conduct their own crash tests in 2006. During this time, the testing methodology has seriously changed and become more complicated several times. Now the Chinese Automotive Industry Research Center conducts crash tests similar to the European Euro NCAP (however, there are a number of serious differences). In total, C-NCAP has three main test blocks – the safety of the driver and passengers, the safety of pedestrians, and the operation of active safety systems.

Honda CR-V

In China, the Honda CR-V crossover is produced by a joint venture of Honda Motor Co., Ltd. and Dongfeng Motor Corporation. An all-wheel drive modification of the car with a 1.5-liter gasoline engine with a capacity of 193 hp took part in the C-NCAP tests. It was just such a car that several dealerships began to privately import to Russia not so long ago. The price of a crossover in the domestic market is now regarding 5 million rubles.

According to the results of crash tests, the car received a high 90.07% for the protection of the driver and passengers: both adults and children. Experts assessed the safety of pedestrians at 80.56%, and the operation of car security systems at 88.09%. Readings taken from dummies showed a moderate risk of injury to the rear passenger’s chest and head in a child seated in a child seat in a frontal impact with a 100% overlap crash barrier at a speed of 50 km/h. For pedestrians, the main danger is the side racks. The result is five safety stars, that is, the maximum score.

Cadillac Lyriq

The electric crossover Cadillac Lyriq is sold in China under the name Ruige. This car is practically no different from the American version of the car, except that in China the model is provided with a lifetime warranty. In the crash test, the top version of the crossover with two electric motors, with a total power of 503 hp, was accepted. and 710 Nm. If desired, it can be bought in Russia. Thus, one of the major Moscow dealerships offers to bring Cadillac Lyriq from China for 8.1 million rubles.

If you believe the results of Chinese crash tests, you can not worry too much regarding the safety of the car – it received five stars in the tests. Experts rated the protection of the driver and passengers at 92.21%, and pedestrians at 72.63%. Driver assistance systems that ensure safe driving received 90.19%. However, it was not without complaints. For rear passengers, both adults and children, the threat is a frontal impact with a 100% overlap on a deformable obstacle. In all other types of collisions, the risk of injury to the driver and passengers is minimal.

Roewe RX5

Crossover Roewe RX5 plays on the same field with models such as Mitsubishi Outlander and Nissan X-Trail. In Russia, this car has never been officially sold. However, crossovers of this brand are brought by a number of dealerships according to alternative schemes. Some of these sales companies have already announced the imminent arrival of the Roewe RX5 in showrooms.

A crossover with a 1.5-liter engine, according to the results of crash tests, was able to score the maximum safety score. In all types of collisions, experts noted a minimal or low risk of injury to the driver or passengers. The car received a high 92.78% for the protection of the driver and passengers (adults and children). Experts assessed the safety of pedestrians at 75.23%, and the operation of car security systems at 85.53%.

KNCAP

Crash tests have been conducted in South Korea since 1999. At the moment in this country, the KNCAP trials include an impressive program. For example, in addition to modeling various types of collisions, experts evaluate the tendency of the car to roll over and road stability. Recently, Korean crash tests have become very relevant for us – many distillers and sellers admit that a large number of cars are imported to Russia through alternative channels from this country.

BMW X3

Crossovers BMW X3 are very popular in Russia, even taking into account the difficulties with the purchase and delivery. Not surprisingly, many sellers carry these cars privately from different countries. Moreover, South Korea has become one of the leading places here.

After crash tests, local experts awarded this car a fairly high 86 safety points out of 100 possible. At the same time, they noted a high risk of chest injury in the rear passenger in a frontal collision. In a side impact from the driver’s side, a motorist himself can get a similar injury. The test organizers also had questions regarding the BMW X3 seats, which, in their opinion, do not protect rear passengers from neck injuries in an accident. As a result, experts rated the overall safety of the crossover at 86%, pedestrian protection at 89.9%, and driver assistance systems received 66.5%.

SsangYong Torres

The South Korean company SsangYong introduced a new crossover Torres last summer. Since then, some domestic dealers have begun to import this car to Russia using a parallel import scheme. The price of a new car is regarding 3.6 million rubles.

With the safety of SsangYong Torres, things are somewhat worse than that of the BMW X3. The safety of the car received 81.6 points. The greatest danger is a side impact from the driver. In such a collision, the motorist has a high chance of serious injury to the chest, abdomen and lower back. In a frontal impact, the driver’s head may be damaged.

Genesis GV70

Another participant in crash tests is the Genesis GV70 crossover, which was previously produced at the Avtotor Kaliningrad plant, and now comes through alternative import channels.

Experts rated the safety of the Genesis vehicle very highly. The overall score is 89.6 points. In all types of collisions, the car demonstrated reliable protection for the driver and passengers. The only complaint is the frontal impact. With it, the front passenger may suffer (chest injury).

ANCAP

The ANCAP crash test began in 1993. The tests involve cars that are sold in Australia and New Zealand. The crash test methodology copies the European Euro NCAP. Australians are also testing cars in a variety of areas: adult occupant safety, child occupant safety, pedestrian safety, and active safety systems. The maximum safety rating is five stars.

Volkswagen Amarok

This is the assessment that the Volksawagen Amarok pickup deserved according to the test results. Experts rated the protection of adults at 86% and children at 93%. Driver assistance systems that ensure safe driving received 83%, and 74% of the car was awarded on the basis of a test that determines how a car can be traumatic for pedestrians.

Finding such an “official” car in Russia is now unlikely to succeed. However, several dealerships offer to bring this car to the customer if necessary. The price is regarding 3.9 million rubles.

Mercedes-Benz GLC

A similar assessment was received by the German crossover Mercedes-Benz GLC. Experts rated the protection of the driver and passengers at a high 92%, children – at 92%, other road users – at 74%, and electronic “assistants” were given 84%. Experts noted a high level of protection for the motorist and passengers in almost all types of collisions. At the same time, the likelihood of serious chest injury in a side impact was noted.

For pedestrians, the A-pillars and the area of the headlights of the car are dangerous. The organizers of the crash tests did not have any complaints regarding the security systems and driver assistance on the road, which is equipped with the Mercedes-Benz GLC.

Hyundai Ioniq 6

The Hyundai Ioniq 6 electric car debuted last summer and has not officially begun to be sold in Russia. But some trading companies this year began to import this “green” sedan on their own. In the presence of dealers, most often you can find only top options that cost regarding 7 million rubles.

Experts rated the safety of the car at the maximum rating – five stars. At the same time, experts noted that passengers are at risk of neck injury in the event of a rear impact. The test organizers had no other claims to the car.

According to tests, the protection of adult passengers in the car was 97%, children – 88%. Experts rated the work of security assistants at 90%, and the functionality of protection systems for vulnerable road users (pedestrians and cyclists) scored 66%. This data almost completely repeats the assessment of Euro NCAP, which conducted similar crash tests in 2022.
