Apple might finally seriously commit to the transition to Lightning ports.
After the iPad and the MacBooks, Apple would now be on the all-USB-C path. L’iPhone would obviously be the first product to be affected and, according to many leakers including Ming-Chi Kuo, all the accessories currently marketed by Apple might also switch to USB-C.
“Other products with the Lighting port (e.g. AirPods, Magic Keyboard/TrackPad/Mouse, MagSafe Battery…) may also switch to USB-C in the near future”he said in a tweet.
This decision to move all of its products to USB-C seems to be quite logical. Generally, all iPhones, iPads, Macs and accessories have always had the same charging port on board. This time, following the 30-pin and the Lightning, Apple would therefore switch to USB-C “in the near future”.
Obviously, it would have been up to Apple, we would have stayed with the Lightning port. The European Union has been putting pressure on Apple for many years for a universal charging port, like USB-C, to the detriment of Lightning. On Apple’s side, this move to a universal port is seen as a hindrance to technological progress.
