On September 12, 2024, the MICHELIN Guide revealed the latest additions to its list of One, Two and Three Key hotels across the United States. This is the second MICHELIN Keys announcement in the United States, adding selections from across the country to a list that previously included only hotels in select locations.
This announcement of the country’s top hotels comes four years after a comprehensive revamp of our hotel selection. The MICHELIN Guide now includes more than 5,000 hotels worldwide, and none of them are simply a room to spend the night in. These are places that contribute significantly to your experience as a traveller, each of them evaluated and judged excellent in five categories: architecture and interior design, quality and consistency of service, overall personality and character, value for money and a significant contribution to the guest experience in a particular setting.
Which brings us back to the Keys. The culmination of countless hours of evaluation by our team of experts, the Key hotels shown below represent the highlights of our wider selection. Like MICHELIN Stars for restaurants, MICHELIN Keys are our most outstanding hotels.

The American West: a breeding ground for Tres Llaves hotels
In our second announcement of Three Key hotels in the United States, five more hotels join the exclusive Three Keys club. Of these, three are located in the American West: Sage Lodge in Montana, Amangiri in Utah and Canyon Ranch Tucson in Arizona. Each takes advantage of the splendor of the American West, and both Canyon Ranch and Amangiri are set amidst spectacular desert landscapes.
Sage Lodge’s Pray, Montana location may not be familiar to you, but this remote ranch has a famous neighbor: its 1,200 acres are just a half-hour drive from Yellowstone National Park.
The Dewberry — Charleston, South Carolina
Big Winner: Southern Hospitality
Austin, Texas and Charleston, South Carolina added 15 new Key hotels in total, a fitting monument for two cities that are often cited among the fastest growing in the United States. The hotel scene has kept pace, with gems like the Commodore Perry Estate (Austin) and the Dewberry (Charleston) that integrate the history of their buildings into their charming luxury boutique sensibility.

Jewels on the Coast: From Top to Bottom in California
While California didn’t add any new additions to the Keys list in our second announcement on September 12, it’s worth taking another look at the many Keys highlighted in our first announcement in April. Here, we’ll point out coastal gems like the sublime architectural achievements in Big Sur (Post Ranch Inn y Ventana), beachside luxuries in Santa Monica (in particular, the newly opened Georgian), and wine country favorites like SingleThread and the Madrona.
