All competition venues of the Beijing Winter Olympics are open to the public for four seasons operation

China News ServiceBeijing, February 23 (Reporter Du Yan) At present, all competition venues of the Beijing Winter Olympics have formulated a “Venue Legacy Plan” to clarify the purpose and planning following the competition, and strive to build a high-quality asset worthy of inheritance and benefit the people.
This was introduced by Liu Xinghua, Director of the Heritage Management Division of the General Planning Department of the Beijing Winter Olympics Organizing Committee, at a press conference on the effectiveness of the coordinated development of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei held today.
He said that it is a long-term task to inherit and utilize the heritage of the Winter Olympics, consolidate the achievements of the Olympic Games, continue to carry forward the Olympic spirit, popularize the development of ice and snow sports, promote the fitness of the whole people, and promote sustainable economic and social development. Among them, actively planning the post-competition utilization of the Winter Olympics venues, combining the holding of major events with serving the national fitness, and accelerating the construction of the Beijing-Zhangjiakou Sports Cultural Tourism Belt are important aspects to continuously release the driving effect of the Winter Olympics and accelerate the coordinated development of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei.
Liu Xinghua pointed out that at present, all competition venues of the Beijing Winter Olympics have formulated the “Venue Legacy Plan” to clarify the use and planning following the competition, and strive to build them into high-quality assets worthy of inheritance and benefit the people.
The post-competition utilization of the Winter Olympic venues will focus on the following four aspects:
First, it is fully open to the public. Serving the mass sports, fitness and leisure, organize a wealth of mass sports activities, and serve the national fitness.
The second is to hold high-level sports events. Continue to bid for and hold high-level international events and various domestic events to drive mass events and local development.
The third is to realize the four-season operation of the venue. All ice venues are open to the public throughout the four seasons and host large-scale events and cultural and leisure activities. The mountain snow venues in Yanqing and Zhangjiakou, due to climate restrictions, will carry out public experience of snow sports and hold events in winter; in non-snow season, the cultural history and natural ecological advantages of the competition area will be used to develop regional tourism and leisure, mountain vacation, outdoor sports and other industries. Realize the four-season operation of the Winter Olympics venues.
The fourth is to realize the joint development of venues and regions. Actively promote the coordinated development of the resources of the Winter Olympics ice and snow venues in the three competition areas of Beijing, Yanqing and Zhangjiakou, and integrate with the public ice and snow facilities, sports facilities, and natural and cultural tourism resources along the Beijing-Zhangjiakou line. Make use of the venues following the game to integrate into the overall development of the region.
Liu Xinghua said that during the preparation period, in order to make full use of the Winter Olympics venues following the games and drive regional development, the Beijing Winter Olympics Organizing Committee actively communicated and coordinated with the International Olympic Committee, focusing on the Winter Olympics venues in the three competition areas of Beijing, Yanqing and Zhangjiakou, respectively. The three competition areas were named and settled in Beijing Winter Olympic Park, Yanqing Olympic Park and Zhangjiakou Chongli Olympic Park, in order to give full play to the value and role of the “Olympic” brand, and to realize the organic integration and linkage development of sports and cultural tourism resources in the three places.
He said that in the next step, relying on the resources of the Winter Olympics venues and the Olympic Park, we will consolidate the achievements of the Winter Olympics and inherit and make good use of the Olympic heritage. (over)
