Once again, the police in Styria had to respond to a bomb threat on Tuesday: around 6 a.m. an email arrived, the contents of which informed about an alleged explosive device at Zeltweg train station. The building was evacuated and train traffic stopped.
After specialists had searched everything, the all-clear was given shortly before 9 a.m. The investigators are now checking whether the sender is the identified Swiss or whether they are free riders.
It was only announced on Monday that a 20-year-old Swiss man could be the suspected sender of numerous bomb threats in Austria in recent weeks. According to the Interior Ministry, he was still at large in his homeland on Monday. The investigators in Styria are now clarifying whether the new email could also have come from the Swiss. The wording of the letter was slightly different, but similar. Incidentally, no dangerous objects were found at the station – as was the case with previous bomb threats.
Every threat triggered a large-scale police operation and widespread lockdowns. Which is why the police urgently warn possible copycats who want to indulge in a bad joke, because: Any threat has criminal consequences and could result in unconditional prison sentences. In addition, the perpetrator would incur high costs as compensation for the police operations and suspensions.
