All aspects of the heinous murder will be investigated

“All aspects of the heinous murder will be investigated and the case will be fully elucidated, so that we can see if everything that was required from the official side was done and if the protocol was followed,” said the government representative, Pavlos Marinakis, speaking to ANT1 today regarding the new femicide which took place outside the Police Station of Aghii Anargyro.

Asked regarding possible mistakes, Mr. Marinakis noted that “obviously the 28-year-old should have been saved.” “It is important to investigate whether protocol was followed, but in life some things are above and beyond protocol. Even if the protocol was followed, more should have been done,” said Mr. Marinakis.

According to the government representative, calmness is needed – at least for those who did not lose their own person – and it is not advisable to target anyone in advance and especially “the targeting of EL.AS as a whole”.

He then said that 18 domestic violence offices have been created and 45 more will soon be operational, while 1,700 police officers have left other agencies and returned to active duty.

What did he say regarding the proposal to legalize the term femicide

Regarding the opposition’s proposal that calls for the legalization of the term femicide, he said: “As far as its social dimension is concerned, we absolutely agree with the term femicide, following all, the Prime Minister himself has expressed himself positively in his article” .

However, he added that “as far as the criminal aspect of the matter is concerned, there is clear hypocrisy on the part of the opposition, specifically SYRIZA. We are talking regarding the party that in 2019 passed a law that made life sentences for murder, to life or 15 years in prison. We as ND reinstated the life sentence as the exclusive punishment for these crimes.”

And he continued: “This is a clear trick on the part of SYRIZA, as these crimes carry the ultimate punishment, life imprisonment. So what does SYRIZA propose? Should there be another treatment for femicides? Should the death penalty be reinstated?”

For Tempi

Asked followingwards regarding the issue of Tempe, he said that “our country has a Constitution and the Parliament has a regulation. What Mr. Kasselakis has in mind has nothing to do with a preliminary examination. In order to do something like this, a proposal would have to be submitted to the Parliament and something like this has not been done by SYRIZA so far. They have drawn up an indictment for Mr. Karamanlis which they are circulating for communication reasons.”

“SYRIZA is playing a game of impressions on a national tragedy”, concluded Mr. Marinakis.
