All about “The Prisoner of the Prophet”, a docuseries about the abuses in the Mormon church

The Prophet’s Prisonera documentary miniseries that aims to expose the darkest secrets of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of the Last Days through the account of abuse and suffering of one of the dozens of wives of its former leader Warren Jeffs, can be seen from Monday on HBO Max .

Produced jointly by Warner Bros. Discovery and Everywoman Studios, the three-episode docuseries follows Briell Decker’s traumatic journey of mental and physical abuse, 65th. wife of Warren Jeffs, former Prophet -as the different leaders of the different expressions of that cult are considered- of the Mormon Church.

Decker grew up in the polygamous community of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (FLDS), one of the largest Mormon organizations in the United States.

At the age of 18, she was forced to move from her small community of Short Creek, in Arizona, to marry Warren Jeffs, the then leader of the Church, sentenced in 2006 to life in prison plus 20 years for two cases of sexual abuse of minors.

The series presents details regarding the religious sect led for decades by Rulon Jeffs and, years later, by his son Warren.

In the production, Briell Decker recounts his long path of improvement and recalls the various cases of pedophilia, sexual abuse and polygamy among the faithful of the church, and the work he is currently doing together with other former members of the FLDS to educate the public. on trauma recovery and cults.
