Frangarto – On the initiative of the KVW local group Frangarto a lecture with Dr. Paul Trebo, rheumatologist at the hospital in Bolzano, on the subject of osteoporosis in the fully occupied seniors’ room in Frangarto.
Mrs. Jutta Stedile from the KVW local group Frangarto welcomed the numerous visitors and the South Tyrolean Rheumatism League presented the extensive activities of the association. In January, the South Tyrolean Rheumatism League, in cooperation with the rheumatologist Dr. Silvia Zanoni, created an information sheet on the subject of osteoporosis, which was also distributed during the lecture.
The disease osteoporosis affects many people, which was also reflected in the lively interest of visitors. The rheumatologist, Dr. Paul Trebo, explained that osteoporosis is a skeletal disease characterized by decreased bone mass and bone quality, leading to increased bone fragility and fractures.
Fractures most commonly occur in the femur, wrist, and vertebrae. Next went Dr. Paul Trebo in his lecture on risk factors for reduced bone mass that can and cannot be influenced and on the bone density measurement D(E)XA and explained that this is recommended for healthy women from the age of 65 and for healthy men from the age of 70.
You can also eat foods containing calcium, such as Parmesan cheese or mineral water containing calcium. Supplying the body with vitamin D also plays an important role. Last but not least, exercise is of great importance. In this context, Dr. Paul Trebo on the range of exercise offered by the Rheumatism League. After the successful evening, Dr. Paul Trebo still ready for the questions.
