Alisson reveals why he refused to move to the Saudi League despite all the temptations

The Brazilian international goalkeeper said in statements reported by the “ESPN” network that he refused to leave Liverpool this summer “because the time was not right for the move.”

“Yes, (a Saudi club) has shown interest, but I want to respect my contract (with Liverpool) and end it, or sign a new contract. I am really happy here, my family is happy too,” Alisson, whose contract with Liverpool runs until 2026 with an option to extend for an additional year, continued.

“I didn’t get to the point where I was talking about wages and stuff like that, it was just interest, but when you hear about the numbers other players are getting, you feel a little bit attracted (to play in Saudi Arabia), that’s normal,” he added.

“At the end of the day, you play football for love, it’s what you love to do, but it’s our job and we want to use the years we have to make the most of it. I think I’m open to that personally but not now. Now is not the time,” the 31-year-old added.

“While my contract is still valid here (at Liverpool), I will focus here. If it is in the club’s interest to negotiate (to sell me), then it will be different,” he continued.

“When the Saudi offer came in, I couldn’t close the door on a big deal, but my decision was always to stay and focus on the things we can achieve at Liverpool,” Alisson continued. “This new start (with Liverpool appointing a new manager), I’m really excited about it, we’re starting fresh, and we’re looking forward to what this season will bring us.”
