Alina Korneeva’s Australian Open Debut: Russian Teen Makes it to Second Round

Russian Alina Korneeva made it to the second round of the Australian Open.

In the first round, 16-year-old Korneeva beat Spaniard Sara Sorribes-Tormo with a score of 4:6, 6:3, 6:2. The meeting lasted 2 hours 18 minutes.

For the Russian, this is her debut in the main draw of the adult Australian Open; last season she won the junior tournament in Melbourne.

Korneeva in the next round will play with the winner of the match between Linda Fruhvirtova (Czech Republic) and Beatriz Haddad-Maia (Brazil, 10th seed).
