Several changes are taking place at the head of the Chinese mega-group Alibaba. Daniel Zhang, who until now headed the holding company, is now in charge of Alibaba’s cloud subsidiary. Eddie Wu and Joseph Tsai return to his current roles.

Several changes are taking place in the direction of Alibaba. As The Verge reports, Daniel Zhang, hitherto CEO of the Chinese holding company, is leaving his post. He now serves as Chairman of the Board and CEO of the Alibaba Cloud Intelligence Group.

Zhang had been promoted to CEO of Alibaba in 2015. “It has been an incredible honor and privilege to lead the Alibaba Group as CEO for the past eight years and as Chairman for the past four years. Given the importance of the Alibaba Cloud Intelligence group on the way to a complete split, it is the right time for me to make a change”, he comments according to the remarks taken up by the American site.

His successor as CEO of the holding company will be Eddie Wu, who currently serves as chairman of Alibaba’s e-commerce subsidiaries Taobao and Tmall Group. Joseph Tsai, currently Executive Vice Chair, is slated for the position of future Group Chairman.

As the Handelsblatt notes, Alibaba announced in March this year that it would split its business into six independently managed companies. With the changes of seats that have just taken place, this split would become more concrete.
