In a joint operation between the Itagüí Security Secretariat and the Police Gaula, Jhon Mario Acosta Sánchez, known as alias “Mono Chevero”, was captured.

The arrest took place on 44th Street and 52nd Street in the Candelaria neighborhood of Medellín, in compliance with an arrest warrant issued by a judge.

Alias ​​“Mono Chevero” had gained notoriety among the authorities in 2019, when he was recorded burning a vehicle in the El Ajizal area, in the El Manzanillo district.

At that event, he also repeatedly fired at the vehicle to intimidate the community and extort residents.

The recording of these criminal acts revealed the bold strategy of this individual to generate terror and reinforce his control over the area.

The charges against Acosta Sánchez include aggravated criminal conspiracy, aggravated attempted extortion, and manufacturing, trafficking, carrying or possession of firearms.

The mayor of Itagüí, Diego Torres, said: “His capture represents a significant advance in the fight against crime, showing that our administration will not tolerate impunity for those who have caused harm to our city.”

Rafael Otálvaro, Secretary of Security of Itagüí, added: “The captured man sought to instill fear in the inhabitants of the El Manzanillo district in order to collect extortion and commit crimes in this area. With his capture and the recent operations, we can consider this gang dismantled.”
