ALGIERS, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) — Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad Ahmed Attaf on Thursday received in Algiers a number of ambassadors from member states of the Economic Community of West Africa (ECOWAS).
They are the ambassadors of Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire, Guinea Bissau and Nigeria, which currently chairs ECOWAS, the ministry said on social media.
The purpose of this meeting is part of the initiative of Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, aimed at ensuring a political and peaceful solution to the crisis in Niger, according to the same source.
On this occasion, Mr. Attaf presented West African diplomats with copies of Mr. Tebboune’s initiative and provided them with explanations of its most important elements, foundations and objectives.
Mr. Attaf stressed Algeria’s willingness to work in full coordination with ECOWAS to increase the chances of a political and peaceful solution to the crisis in Niger and exclude the risks of resorting to arms, so as to preserve peace. , security and stability in Niger and throughout the region.
