President Abdelmadjid Tebboune explained, on Saturday evening, during his regular meeting with the Algerian media, in answering a question about the responsibility of the independent authority to monitor elections in the discrepancy recorded in the numbers presented during the presidential elections of last September 7, saying that “it is in accordance with the desire of the three candidates.” He ordered us to open careful investigations to inquire and clarify the personal influences and actions of what happened to address the problem.”
He added, “Sometimes, there are people who are not at the level of constitutional institutions such as the Independent Election Monitoring Authority, which is a constitutional pillar that enhances the transparency of elections, and came to replace thousands of employees who were supervising the elections.”
He stressed that “the country is heading towards very complex elections, during which thousands of candidates will advance,” as “if the machine is not at the constitutionally required level, it will be necessary to review it.”
He pointed out that “investigations within the authority are currently underway, and their results will be published soon, as they are of interest to public opinion.”
On September 8, the National Elections Authority in Algeria announced that President Abdelmadjid Tebboune had won a second presidential term after obtaining 94.65% of the votes.
She stated that the result of the counting inside and outside Algeria recorded 5 million and 630 votes for the three candidates, of which Tebboune received 5 million and 320 votes.
