#Algeria : Senior Algerian police officials have been suspended following the death of two young people who were trying to reach Europe illegally in the landing gear of an Air Algerie plane, the presidency announced on Wednesday.
«Nine officials of the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) and Houari Boumediene airport have been suspended» and four other people, aged between 23 and 46, suspected of being «iinvolved in facts that led to» the death of the two men «were arrested and taken into custody»said the presidency in a press release.
Among the suspended police officials are the director of the border police (PAF) and the police commissioner in charge of air traffic surveillance, according to the same source.

They will appear before a disciplinary committee, pending the conclusions of the preliminary investigation, before being brought before the prosecution, said the presidency.
According to local media, the two victims in their twenties were Algerians who were trying to get to Europe illegally. The two men would have boarded the plane which had provided the day before a return flight between Algiers and Barcelona (Spain), according to these sources.
In March, at Constantine airport (east), a 16-year-old minor had managed to board an Air Algerie plane clandestinely bound for France, according to the local press. He had arrived there safe and sound following making the trip in the baggage compartment.
