A missing youth Algeria A man has been found alive in the basement of his alleged kidnapper’s home 26 years later.
Omar bin Imran left his home in Jelfa city to attend a vocational school in 1998 and never returned.
Following his disappearance, the 17-year-old’s family believed he had been killed in the civil war between the Algerian government and rebels.
Imran, 45, was rescued on Sunday from his alleged abductor and neighbor’s house, which is just 200 meters away from his family’s house.
The 61-year-old neighbor, who is suspected of holding Imran captive for nearly three decades, has been arrested, public prosecutors said in a statement.
According to the prosecutor’s office: “The Jelfa Attorney General’s Office told the public that they rescued the 45-year-old from the house of his 61-year-old neighbor B.A. at 8:00 p.m. local time on May 12.”
In the video taken during the rescue, Imran, wearing a sweater and with a full beard, can be seen being pulled from his neighbor’s basement under a grass-covered floor.

Imran’s family reportedly informed the law enforcement authorities following the accused’s brother shared on social media that his brother was involved in a kidnapping.
Authorities reopened the investigation and searched the man’s home, eventually finding a trapdoor hidden under the grass.
The attorney general’s office said that Imran was immediately taken to a medical center for treatment and that the accused will be detained on charges of a ‘heinous crime’.
The accused is alleged to have also killed Imran’s dog as it kept wandering around the house of the accused even a month following the youth went missing.
According to local media, the body of the dog was found in front of Imran’s house.
Imran’s mother, who reportedly continued to search for her son, died in 2013.
“His mother died during his imprisonment, without knowing what happened to her, without knowing that he was always close to her,” a neighbor told Algerian broadcaster Balad. ‘
