ALGERIA on Saturday (10/8) asked the United Nations (UN) Security Council to hold an emergency open session next Tuesday (13/8) to discuss Israel’s attack on a school housing refugees in Gaza City.

The request was made by Algeria, as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, in response to the latest developments in the occupied Palestinian territories.

“..especially after the airstrike by the Zionist army on the Al-Tabin school,” the official Algerian news agency reported, citing an anonymous diplomatic source in New York as saying. Between.

The request, according to the report, was made by Algeria after talks with the State of Palestine and was supported by other UNSC member states (not further explained).

At least 100 people were killed and several others injured when Israeli aircraft attacked Palestinians performing morning prayers at Al-Tabin School in the Al-Daraj area.

The attack brings the number of schools targeted by Israeli forces in Gaza City over the past week to six.

Israel continues to launch deadly attacks on the Gaza Strip despite calls from mediators, including Egypt, the United States and Qatar.

The mediators urged Israel to cease hostilities and reach a ceasefire and hostage exchange agreement.

A wave of Israeli attacks on Gaza has killed nearly 39,800 people since October last year, following cross-border attacks by the Palestinian militant group Hamas.

Israel has been sued at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for genocide. The ICJ has ordered Israel to immediately halt its military operations in Rafah. The southern city was where more than a million Palestinians sought refuge from the war before it was stormed on May 6. (Z-6)
