Alexis Sánchez Press Conference: Criticism, Controversy, and National Team Updates

Alexis Sánchez talked about everything at Saturday’s press conference. The historic scorer of the Chilean team came forward and went through several issues, the most talked about being his criticism of the functioning of Chilean football and the deficiencies in the infrastructure of Juan Pinto Durán and the Monumental stadium, where La Roja has been home against the impossibility of using the National.

But the Inter forward also talked about other things. One of them was about Claudio Bravo and the controversial post he made after Eduardo Berizzo’s departure was confirmed, after the draw with Paraguay last Thursday.

The Betis goalkeeper used his social networks to publish an enigmatic message, hours after the process of the former Paraguay coach ended. “A wise man said: first it hurts, then it makes you angry, it ends up making you laugh and also reason,” he said. Sánchez was consulted for this publication.

“He is a great person, he is the captain and he knows how this works. I know him, when he (Reinaldo) Rueda was there I spoke and told him ‘Claudio has to come.’ He is something fundamental in the team, he is the captain, he was the captain for a long time in the National Team, we won many nice things and I have always told him things up front. Maybe I don’t need a captaincy, I don’t need to shout, I keep a low profile. If I have something to say, I go to the player and tell him,” declared the former Olympique de Marseille.

“Obviously it doesn’t add up and he knows it’s important for us. I think it’s something personal to him, when he comes back one day he’ll say it and he’ll have his reasons, I don’t know. He doesn’t help but he doesn’t blur us as a team either,” he concluded.

In the midst of an environment with more doubts than certainties, the National Team arrived in Quito this Sunday for Tuesday’s match, against the Ecuadorian team led by the Spanish Félix Sánchez Bas.
