Alexandri duo only finished fourth in synchronized swimming

The ÖOC team achieved 555.6678 points in the free program on Saturday, meaning they were beaten not only by the Chinese Olympic champions Wang Liuyi/Wang Qianyi, but also by the British Kate Shortman/Isabella Thorpe and Bregje and Noortje de Brouwer from the Netherlands. They were 2.7285 points short of bronze.

After the technical freestyle, the Greek-born dancers were in second place, ahead of the British and Dutch twins. The 26-year-old Alexandris had chosen a higher level of difficulty than in the technical freestyle, with a score of 54.05. The motto of the precisely executed choreography was “Condor”, referring to the bird of prey native to South America. Although she earned a strong 288.4145 points, her competitors were rated even better.

At the World Championships last year in Fukuoka, the sisters won the gold medal (free routine), and at the 2023 European Championships in Otopeni/Romania, the duet Alexandri also won gold (free and technical routine). This year, Anna-Maria and Eirini-Marina missed the World Championships and European Championships due to illness and injury, and only the third triplet sister Vasiliki was successful in the solo competition.
