With an early victory, Alexander contributed to the defeat of the guests from South America.

On Friday, July 21, in Omsk, Alexander Shlemenko will once once more fight according to MMA rules. His opponent will be ex-UFC representative from Brazil Alex Oliveira, who, by his own admission, is not quite ready to meet with Alexander, which means that the veteran has a chance to return to the winning streak following a series of failures. Experts believe that Storm is able to win by decision, but they do not believe in an early victory. Unfortunately, at 39, the Russian fighter is no longer the same as before.

But once Shlemenko might destroy champions with one blow!

Defeat of the Brazilians

On August 5, 2011, at a tournament in Sochi, Alexander Shlemenko was a member of the Russian team, which was opposed by the Brazilian team in a match meeting at the League S-70 tournament. A significant event did not go unnoticed by distinguished guests, among whom there was a place for Fedor Emelianenko. South Americans for the most part were not known to the general public in our country, although the opponent had titled athletes, including world champions in various types of martial arts. In our team, there were enough bright fighters who would make noise in the UFC and Bellator in the future: Maxim Grishin, Alexander Sarnavsky, Alexander Volkov.

Alexander Shlemenko, who was to fight António Bad Face Santana, already at that time had a solid experience of playing in prestigious organizations, won the Bellator Grand Prix final and even claimed the middleweight championship belt. Storm, of course, might not compare in status with the legendary guests, but still he clearly claimed the role of one of the main stars of the evening.

By the time Shlemenko was invited to the ring, the Brazilians were already ingloriously inferior to our fighters with a score of 0-4. Sarnavsky strangled his opponent in the first round, Grishin and Sergey Bal knocked out their opponents before the first break. Only Igor Savelyev made it to the third round, but also ended up winning ahead of schedule. From Alexander, the fans expected an unconditional victory, so that at the end of the tournament one might talk regarding the defeat of the South American guests.

KO from Storm

Santana intended to redeem himself for the failures of his teammates, but the task before the Brazilian champion in Luta Livre was not an easy one. Shlemenko was inferior to him in height by five centimeters, but in other respects he had an advantage. Storm was three years younger, while more experienced and more successful, judging by the number of professional fights in mixed martial arts. Alexander entered the ring as a favorite, he got more applause, for obvious reasons, than his opponent.

Shlemenko tried to justify the status of the favorite from the very beginning of the battle, rushing to demonstrate his skills in percussion technique. Santana, being a master of wrestling, tried to show his strengths, but following he ran into a roundhouse punch, he somewhat cooled down to the idea of rapprochement with Alexander. After a pause and realizing that nothing was going to happen to him in the exchange, the South American once more tried to restrain Storm with his clinch and for the time being successfully coped with the task. The Russian was squeezed once morest the ropes, and then in the corner, but then the referee came to the rescue, who, seeing the passivity of the Brazilian, separated the rivals.

António Santana decided to demonstrate to the audience and Shlemenko that he also understands something in percussion technique. The high-kick in his performance might be dangerous, but it just did not reach the goal. Waving his foot in the air, the Brazilian was forced to retreat. Shlemenko probably thought that there was no point in messing with such an opponent for too long – he resolutely went forward and knocked out the Brazilian with a sweeping blow from the left. The judge hurried to stop the fight, Bad Face, however, was not eager to continue himself.

The next, fifth, early victory of the Russian team, for which Shlemenko spent less than a minute and a half, the whole hall was happy, including Fedor Emelianenko, who actively supported our fighters. Guests from Brazil were not ready for such a meeting in Russia and went home in a not very positive mood. Storm, leaving the ring with a smile on his face, only a month and a half following a bright victory returned to Bellator, where he was expected by another path to victory in the Grand Prix, and then the championship belt.
