New York Islanders defenseman Alexander Romanov was fined by the National League Player Safety Department on Sunday for hitting New York Rangers forward Vincent Trocheck.
The 22-year-old full-back will therefore have to shell out $5,000 out of pocket.
The former Montreal Canadiens is well known for his physical game, but he probably did too much during his team’s preseason game on Saturday. At the start of the third period, he heavily checked his opponent, even being awarded a minor penalty for assaulting the sequence.
Romanov will begin his first season with the formation of the Big Apple in 2022-2023, he who was acquired from the Canadiens during the off-season.
