ALEXANDER NANTSCHEV – „Selves“ – mica

On his new album “Selves” (Crystal Horizon Records), ALEXANDER NANTSCHEV shows himself to be a musician who succeeds admirably in forming a musical language from a wide variety of styles that creates an incredible atmosphere.

If you look at Alexander Nantschev’s many different projects, you can see that he not only feels connected to one genre, but also knows how to move well in the most diverse musical environments. Classically trained on the violin, the Viennese, who also plays the guitar, shows no musical reservations, he plays in classical ensembles and orchestras as well as he is on stage with folk and rock bands. On his new album “Selves” Alexander Nantschev brings all his musical worlds together in a certain way, he weaves them into a language that really sounds a little different in a positive sense.

The violinist and guitarist with Bulgarian roots, together with the invited musicians and singers, brings to life a sound that retains its independence, vibrates wonderfully timelessly and tells its very own stories. What particularly stands out is the really varied and well thought-out songwriting, which doesn’t get lost in the usual pop format, but makes its own way in sound, structure, style and chord progressions, creating a lot of tension and atmosphere and plenty of room for experiments of all kinds leaves. The musical spectrum in which the pieces move ranges from pop tunes through progressive rock approaches and psychedelic New Wave vibes to a weird mixture of folk and techno and wide film music soundscapes. A mix that may seem a bit extensive at first, but Alexander Nantschev actually succeeds in forming something uniformly functioning with a very unique character from the various elements.

Alexander Nantschev proves on “Selves” that he has done his homework with flying colors when it comes to songwriting. His album is bursting with ideas and gripping melodies, it grows into a real listening experience, in which one immerses oneself in genre once more and once more.
