The Association of People with Visual Disabilities of the Motatán municipality, Trujillo state, recently celebrated “Father’s Day”, an activity that took place at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located in the Pinto Salinas sector, with the purpose of deservedly honoring fathers with visual disabilities on this very special date.

Jesus Gregorio Hernandez “the ophthalmology office”

There were three interventions – in addition to the presentation of gifts to those present, starting with Jesús Gregorio Hernández, comptroller of the Association of People with Visual Disabilities of the Motatán municipality, who briefly stated:

“There must be solidarity among us blind people, supporting and helping each other. I feel very committed – as the brother says – and I truly feel from my heart that this is a struggle and a task that we have pending as an association,” he said.

There are three priorities

First – he listed – the ophthalmology office, second, raising awareness among family members to count on their support in this regard; for this, they should be given workshops, talks, etc.; and the other struggle, which reminds me of when I fell at the crossroads of “El Estudiante” boulevard.

On the need – argument – for the presence of an official from the National Institute of Land Transit (INTT), for the surveillance and control of motor traffic to guarantee the free transit and pedestrian safety of people with disabilities, and pedestrians in general.

The fathers present were entertained and given gifts on the occasion of “Father’s Day”

Jhonny Castellano “We must help the association grow”

For his part, Jhonny Castellano: vice president of the Municipal Association of People with Disabilities, stated

“Good morning, first of all, we are grateful to God for this wonderful day. We would like to welcome each and every one of those present. I am proud to see the greater attendance and we hope to grow in the next assembly,” he said.

First of all, he said, I would like to apologize to my colleague Alexander Gallinat, who was unable to attend due to health problems. I really congratulate my colleague Alexander Castellano, an honorary member of our association, who is a great support for us in Caracas. The association is just starting out and it is our responsibility to help it grow and be spokespersons for people with disabilities so that they can join.

Finally, Alexander Castellano, honorary member of the Association of Visually Impaired People of the Motatán municipality, spoke. He said that the event was held not only to entertain the parents, but also to formally register the members with the institution, which turned out quite well, thank God, with great success.

This activity was carried out thanks to the people who collaborated – such as – Punto y Coma Bakery, San Antonio Bakery, Venezuela Lingerie in Caracas, Todo Intimo Stores, Suministros Plateados and our friend Doris Gamboa from Inversiones Doña Guille, who made it possible for the boys to receive a gift for “Father’s Day.”

He continued: “Likewise, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, headed by our friend Alfredo Anselmi, also provided very important support. Whenever we hold any assembly or meeting, they are ready to help us with the premises, the support of the Helderes Choir” and the girls from the Relief group who are very attentive to us.

He also pointed out the support of Maryori Olmedillo and Esmeralda Perdomo, who have dedicated themselves in a very humane and good-hearted way to supporting this project that is being carried out in Motatán, the Association of People with Visual Disabilities. Our work is to help these people to integrate into society.

The association is just starting out, so it is important to help it grow by incorporating people with disabilities.

Workshops, courses and talks

He also announced that we received news from the President of the Church that they have lent or given away two rooms where courses and workshops will be held so that people with visual disabilities can acquire more information, training and have greater ease in integrating into society.

Workshops will be held on orientation and mobility, Braille, daily life activities, and also job training workshops so that they can be inserted in the labor field. It is truly a real honor for us to be doing this work and that it is being done in a good way.

But it is important – he stressed – that the population of people with disabilities in the Motatán municipality know that without them, this is not possible, thanks to the fact that they have been attending the association, the meetings, we can continue focusing and maturing all these projects.

Part of the development and evolution of Motatán

I am sure that, with God’s favor – he emphasized – as more people join, it will get better. All the projects are for the benefit of people with disabilities. We rejoice knowing that they will have the wonderful opportunity to be part of the development and evolution of Motatán. It is important that the people, the community and the collective are present.

He said, “I thank my friend Alex Gallinat, president of the Association, the vice president Jhonny Castellano, the secretary of finance, Yasmine Espinoza; social affairs, Jesús Navarro; Jesús Gregorio Hernández, comptroller, since they allow me to work on this noble cause.”

“I am grateful to DLA for allowing us to reach all those people in the state of Trujillo so that they can be informed and remember that Motatán now has an association of people with visual disabilities that is there to look following all people in this sector with visual disabilities,” he stressed.

Concern: Increase in the number of visually impaired people

By the way – he said – something that worries me greatly because the number of people with visual disabilities has increased too much, and we are also interested in finding out why, whether it is genetic or environmental, but there are too many people. So far it is estimated that there are 300 people with visual disabilities, only in the CAIDV of Valera there are 150, it is really worrying.

“I invite the Mayor of Motatán to join us in this work, to collaborate with us, to offer their support, so that together we can begin to discover where the crux of all this is, where it is, why and to develop a prevention project, which is extremely important,” he suggested.

Call to Governor Gerardo Marquez

We also know that there are many people with cataracts – he recalled – a subject that is so simple today, but unfortunately – speaking literally – “Motatán is going blind” due to a subject as simple as cataracts and due to lack of care these people have not yet received the operation.

I call on my friend Gerardo Márquez, governor of Trujillo state, to be a little concerned regarding this and to speed up the process so that these people can receive medical attention and surgery. We really have to put our hand on our heart: “being blind is not easy, not easy at all.” It is important that this be taken into account.

“I really pray to God that all those people who have to do with the issue at the government level can come and collaborate with this. The ophthalmological clinic that my friend Alex Gallinat is asking for seems like a good idea to me because the population is very large, and the truth is that it is needed,” concluded Alexander Castellano.
