Alexa could soon imitate the voices of your deceased loved ones

According to Rohit Prasad, the scientist in charge of the artificial intelligence part of Alexa, adding “human attributes” is increasingly important, “in these pandemic times when so many of us have lost loved ones.

The company has not announced a launch date, and has not even confirmed a possible public version of this option. But she explains that it would only take a minute recording for Alexa to imitate a person.

After the deepfakes, place to the audio deepfakes. Note, however, that the technology is nothing new. It is used in particular by certain podcasters, in order to “repair” in post-production an error pronounced during the recording. There is also a dubious example of the use of this technology in a recent documentary devoted to Anthony Bourdain, in which the chef “reads” his private emails aloud, thanks to artificial intelligence.
