Fall depression, demoralizing birthday, or even updating its AI, theories on Alexa’s voice change in recent days are rife. What if our assistant was simply the victim of cyber-harassment? Indeed, hurtful comments have an impact… Including on Alexa.
Alexa fights once morest cyber-harassment
On the occasion of National Anti-Harassment Day on November 9, Amazon and Respect Zonea French NGO for youth protection and prevention of cyber-violence, have therefore mobilized to raise awareness among Alexa users of cyber-violence, in particular cyber-harassment.
Alexa makes us aware of cyber-violence and cyber-harassment
We are delighted to be able to participate in Respect Zone’s online respect efforts and hope that this experience will resonate with our users: we sometimes lose our calm online or when speaking with Alexa but not seeing the direct effects of these words regarding our interlocutor does not mean that there are none… If Alexa can help convey this message with humor and education, we will have succeeded in our bet. Clément Monjou – Senior Manager Alexa International
Of course, Alexa is only an artificial intelligence, but should we do everything with her? Not necessarily, because as the maxim goes “habits die hard”, and bad ones especially.
Alexa is enriched with educational content on the subject
In addition to the cyberbullying awareness campaign, the Alexa and Respect Zone teams have designed lasting educational content on the subject of online harassment.

Questions such as “Alexa, what is cyberbullying / online violence / cyber-violence” will offer definitions developed in collaboration with Respect Zone experts, as well as an incentive to contact 3018a free listening service for victims of online harassment and digital violence, or to dialogue with the NGO Respect Zone.
Since the identification of the different forms of cyber-violence and the precise definition of harassment are not always easy, a specific quiz has been set up. It can be accessed by simply asking “Alexa, what is harassment?” » on your Amazon Echo devices.
Philippe Coen, Founder and President of Respect Zone, welcomes this initiative: “with this collaboration we are contributing, through the voice of Alexa, to raising awareness among families regarding (cyber) harassment. This original approach is a positive, innovative and interactive tool for non-violent online communication, essential for building e-respect. »
