It’s just not going well for South Tyrol’s ski men. Above all, the failure of Alex Vinatzer was extremely bitter in the night slalom in Madonna di Campiglio.

The ailing Vinatzer actually showed a courageous ride with number 18 and was on course for the top ten in the first run, but then another threader happened to him. The many failures run like a red thread through his young career. This year the slalom specialist hasn’t collected a single World Cup point.
“It’s bitter that a threader happened to me twice in the slalom. Now I have to try to work on it during the two-week break. We did it two years ago and we will do it now. I don’t like looking for excuses,” explained Vinatzer in the finish area of Madonna. Vinatzer addresses his failure series in the 2020/21 season, when he went empty-handed in the slalom five times in a row. In principle, nobody doubts the talent of the Val Gardena, so he can be expected to liberate himself in the slalom in January.
South Tyroleans once more without points
In addition to Vinatzer, Simon Maurberger and Tobias Kastlunger also missed the second round on Thursday evening. While Maurberger missed qualifying by three hundredths, Kastlunger with the high start number 57 still had to pay a little empty money and ended up in 47th place. This is the fourth race in a row in which South Tyrolean ski men have not scored any points. This was already the case with the second Gröden descent and with the two giant slaloms in Alta Badia.
