The Alex DeBrincat derby is finally over.
The Detroit Red Wings have secured the talented small forward from the Ottawa Senators.
According to David Pagnotta, the Wings and DeBrincat have agreed to the terms of a four-year contract, for an annual salary of 7.875 million dollars, the same average as Nick Suzuki.
DeBrincat has agreed to an extension with Detroit. Hearing 4-years, $7.875M AAV range.
As @FriedgeHNIC had first, he’s been traded to Detroit. Trade details coming soon.

Natural markers like DeBrincat, it does not run the streets and it is paid.
Suzuki received the same average annual salary as DeBrincat, but he signed for eight years, rather than four. Following these four years, DeBrincat might therefore pocket a monster salary, while he would be in his prime.
The return for the 5-foot-7 forward goes as follows.
Dominik Kubalik heads to Ottawa, along with prospect Donovan Sebrango, a 2024 conditional first-round pick and Detroit’s 2024 fourth-round pick.
Trade Alert! The #Sens have acquired forward, Dominik Kubalík, defenceman, Donovan Sebrango, a conditional first-round draft pick in ’24 and a fourth-round draft pick in ’24 from the Detroit Red Wings, in exchange for forward, Alex DeBrincat. pic.twitter.com/50qRoouRiK

Detroit is a division rival of the Senators, but also of the Montreal Canadiens. Cole Caufield and Alex DeBrincat have often been compared for their similar style of play.
We remember that Caufield, he signed for an annual salary of 7.85 million dollars over eight years, or 25,000 dollars less than DeBrincat.
The small Habs forward’s contract might therefore become a godsend, if DeBrincat will reap the butter and the butter money following this four-year extension.
Here are the details of the agreement between the Wings and the DeBrincat clan. From July 1, 2024, The Cat will be able to offer a list of 16 teams to which he would not want to be traded.
Alex DeBrincat structure with #LGRW:
2023-24: $8.25 million
2024-25: $8.25 million
2025-26: $8.25 million
2026-27: $6.75 million
(All salary, no signing bonus)
Total: 4 years, $31.5 millionStarting July 1, 2024: 16-team “no-trade” list.

If you want my opinion, the Wings won the transaction at first sight, because they add “oomph” to their offense with a potential player of 40 goals each year. In return, they don’t give a lot and signed Brinsky for a good price.
Dominik Kubalik, Donovan Sebrango and a first-round pick is still an acceptable return for the Sens, but nothing that comes close to what they sent to Chicago to acquire.
It was pick #7, which became Kevin Korchinski, a second-round pick, as well as a third-round pick.
We now know the condition related to the first-round pick sent by Detroit.
In 2024, Detroit has two first-round picks, its own, as well as that of the Boston Bruins.
The Wings can decide to send their choice, or that of Boston, except if the choice of Boston is found in the first 10, following the lottery.
At that point, the Bruins might decide to keep their pick, and thus send their 2025 pick, without any protection.
Don’t worry if you don’t understand the condition, you are not alone.
1st Round Pick Condition:#LGRW have option of sending their own ’24 1st or Boston’s (top 10 protected).
If BOS ’24 1st is top 10, BOS can trade their ’25 1st to Detroit instead, & then DET can send that or their ’24 1st.— PuckPedia (@PuckPedia) July 10, 2023
Kubalik commands a salary of $2.5 million for the next season, which is very affordable for what he can bring. In his rookie season, he tallied 30 goals and is coming off his second season of at least 45 points.
21-year-old defenseman Sebrango is a 2020 third-round pick by the Wings and has shuttled between the American League and ECHL.
He was part of the 2022 edition of the World Junior Under-20 Championship with Canada, where he collected two points in seven games.
Now that the trade is complete, this might therefore allow the Senators to sign a free agent, they who now have a little more than 5 million dollars under the salary mass, selon CapFriendly.
The name that comes up the most on the Ottawa side is that of Vladimir Tarasenko.
Vladimir Tarasenko is continuing to talk to teams. The #Sens and Hurricanes are among a group that remain interested.

However, it would be necessary to release a little more salary, to afford to acquire Tarasenko.
Imagine this line.
Raymond – Larkin – DeBrincat.
