The F1 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix Steward has ruled that Alex Albon (Williams) is responsible for the crash that occurred in the final stages of the final race on March 27, with a three-grid demotion penalty.
Albon, who faced the second race of his return to F1, made contact with Lance Stroll (Aston Martin) on Turn 1 on lap 47, when he was fighting for 11th place. He retired from the race because his right front tire had a flat tire.
After the race, following hearing from both drivers and team representatives and examining the video evidence, Steward decided that Albon had the “total or primary responsibility” for the collision.
Steward pointed out that when Albon set up a stroll on the inside by late braking, he locked up the tires and a contact occurred at the apex in the corner. The FIA International Sporting Code, Article 2d, Chapter 4, was ruled to be demoted to 3 grids and 2 penalty points at the Australian Grand Prix for violating Appendix L.
Penalty points are penalties valid for 12 months, and if you reach 12 points, you will be suspended for one race.
