A new alert has just been issued by the government site Rappel Conso. It concerns the Selles sur Cher AOP cheese from the Fromagerie Anjouin brand, suspected of being contaminated with the toxigenic Escherichia coli shiga bacteria.
The product recall concerns stocks sold from August 23 to 25, marketed at Carrefour and Auchan. Consumers are invited to no longer consume the product and to bring it back to its point of sale to receive a refund.
Reminder Conso also invited consumers of the contaminated product to consult their doctor without delay, notifying him of this consumption as well as the place and date of purchase: “In the absence of symptoms within 10 days following consumption of the products concerned , there is no need to worry and consult a doctor,” the site said.
Severe kidney complications in children
Consumption of products containing toxigenic Escherichia coli shiga can lead to several symptoms in the week following their ingestion, such as “sometimes bloody diarrhea, abdominal pain and vomiting, with or without fever”, can we read on the site.
Sometimes, these inconveniences do not happen alone since they can be followed – in 5 to 8% of cases – by severe renal complications, especially in children.
“In general, the health authorities remind that, as a precaution, raw milk and cheeses made from raw milk should not be consumed by young children and particularly those under 5 years old”, mentioned the site. , specifying that it is necessary to favor cooked pressed cheeses – such as Emmental or Comté – spreadable processed cheeses, or pasteurized milk cheeses.
This recommendation also applies to pregnant women, immunocompromised people and the elderly.
