Alert and confirmation of poisoning of people in Cuba due to consumption of this condensed milk

Health authorities in Cuba, specifically in the province of Villa Clara, issued an alert and confirmed cases of poisoning of people, including children, due to the consumption of condensed milk manufactured and sold in the territory.

According to Dr. Juan José Pulido López, Director General of Health of Villa Clara, there is an outbreak of food poisoning in Corralillo, a municipality in the north of that province, quite far from the provincial capital.

In a message, he detailed the following: since Wednesday night, the polyclinic of the main town received people with symptoms of dehydration, diarrhea and vomiting, with health authorities identifying an outbreak of food poisoning due to condensed milk.

“Fourteen patients, including minors, were treated and transferred to the April 9 hospital in Sagua la Grande for evaluation by a team of professionals from that institution (…) then two more minors were admitted with similar symptoms,” they added.

Pulido López confirmed that “all those affected consumed condensed milk from the Sagua Dairy Company, distributed by the local Agricultural Company.”

“The samples have been sent to the provincial laboratory for analysis, although the results have not yet been confirmed,” he added.

Cuba: Condensed milk poisoning

The doctor assured that so far, all those affected in Cuba by this condensed milk poisoning were “out of danger, no serious cases were reported, some have even been discharged.” He added that from the beginning an alert was issued to prevent consumption of the product at points of sale.

Finally, they stated that “investigations are being carried out to determine the causes of this outbreak of food poisoning and prevent future incidents.”

“We reiterate that No serious cases have been reported, nor have there been any deaths. because of this event,” they conclude.

The Sagua la Grande Hospital reported on Facebook that “patients from Corralillo admitted to the Sagua la Grande hospital were discharged from hospital with food poisoning. There were no deaths and samples of the product they consumed together are currently being analyzed in the provincial laboratory.”
