After playing first-class cricket for 10 years in Pakistan, umpiring stalwart Aleem Dar is all set to cross another milestone.

He will break Steve Buckner’s record for most Test matches as an umpire when he takes the field for the first Test between Australia and New Zealand in Perth on Thursday.

This will be his 129th Test as an umpire, having first officiated in the Dhaka Test between Bangladesh and England in 2003.

Made his international debut as an umpire in ODI in 2000 in the home series against Sri Lanka.

Since then he has officiated in 207 One Day Internationals and is just short of Rudy Coetzee’s record of 209 matches on that front.

Aleem said that this is a milestone which I did not think about at the beginning of my umpiring career, when I take the field in Australia, it will be an important moment in my life.

I started this journey thousands of kilometers from here in Gujranwala, Steve Buckner was my idol and now I am about to surpass him, during which I saw some very memorable matches, including Brian Lara’s 400 in Test cricket. This included an innings of not out and Australia’s 434 in ODIs by South Africa in 2006.

Aleem Dar further said that my long journey would not have been possible without the support of my family. I am also grateful to International Cricket Council and Pakistan Cricket Board for giving me opportunities.
