Indonesian tennis player Aldila Sutjiadi and her Japanese partner Miyu Kato advanced to the semifinals of the WTA 500 Washington after defeating the United States (US)/China representatives Ashlyn Krueger/Xu Yifan with a convincing score of 7-6 (5) and 6-1.
Aldila said that the victory over Ashlyn Krueger/Xu Yifan was not easily achieved because the match was very tight.
“The first set was really fierce from start to finish. Every point meant a lot and we are grateful to have overcome the pressure and come out as winners,” said Aldila in a written statement, Friday (2/8).
This victory further solidifies Aldila/Miyu’s position as one of the strongest pairs in the tournament.
Their struggle is not over yet, because in the semifinals they will face the winner between the Russian pair Anastasia Potapova/Yana Sizikova and the Chinese/Taiwanese pair Jiang Xinyu/Wu Fang Hsien.
Aldila expressed her gratitude and high enthusiasm for the achievement. She and her teammates will prepare themselves as best they can to face the next round.
