Aldila Sutjiadi Decides to Duet with Miyu Kato Again – 2024-08-01 03:40:42

INDONESIAN tennis player Aldila Sutjiadi will again duet with Japanese athlete Miyu Kato to join the WTA tour in the United States (US).

Aldila previously paired up with American tennis player Asia Muhammad to take part in tournaments in Europe, but will now start her adventure in the US with Kato, including at the US Open.

“The achievements we (with Miyu) achieved last year on hardcourt are the motivation to collaborate again at this year’s US Open. We want to be able to surpass previous achievements and achieve better results,” said Aldila in a written statement, Monday (29/7).

The first tournament the two will take part in is the 2024 Mubadala Citi DC Open (WTA 500).

In the first match or round of 16, the pair faced the duo Olivia Nicholls (England) and Tereza Mihalikova (Slovakia), Wednesday (31/7) WIB.

During their time as a pair, Aldila/Miyu have a good record and have shown consistent performance on hardcourt surfaces in 2023.

The pair reached the quarterfinals in Cincinnati and emerged as champions in Cleveland. They also made it to the round of 16 at the 2023 US Open.

Aldila said that she was very happy to be paired with Kato again.

According to him, Kato is an agile and fast tennis player.

He also admitted that they have good chemistry on the field and have won several titles together, so he hopes that the good performance will continue.

After completing the series of tournaments in the US, Aldila will compete in the 2024 US Open to realize her dream of becoming the first Indonesian tennis player to win a Grand Slam title.

Aldila hopes to achieve the best results in the tournament and bring honor to the name of the Indonesian nation.

“The US Open is one of the most prestigious tournaments in the world. I will try my best to reach the final round and win the title,” said the 29-year-old.

The pair Aldila Sutjiadi/Miyu Kato have proven themselves as one of the most respected women’s doubles pairs in the world. Both have won several prestigious titles in various WTA tournaments, most recently they became champions at the 2024 Thailand Open.

After the US Open, Aldila is planned to return to Indonesia to prepare herself to appear at the 21st National Sports Week (PON) 2024 which will take place in Aceh and North Sumatra on September 8-20.

In the national event, Aldila has the ambition to win the gold medal again. (Ant/Z-1)
