Exasperated by the abuse, the staff of a supermarket near Amiens (Somme) decided to charge for parking. Customers now have 1h15 to do their shopping.
A radical change. In order to fight once morest “sucker cars”, the vehicles of non-customers in its parking lot, the Aldi supermarket in Salouël (Somme) has announced the end of its free service.
“Patients or students from the CHU Amiens-Picardie sometimes came to park for the day. They took the place of customers, in particular the handicapped”, testified a member of staff to the Parisian.
The parking lot of the CHU had become paying for more than a year, pushing its employees to fall back on that of the supermarket.
Unhappy customers
A barrier and a payment terminal have been installed at the entrance to the Aldi car park. From now on, customers will have to do their shopping in 1h15 maximum, if they wish to benefit from the free parking. Beyond that, they will have to pay an increase of 10 euros, then 2 euros per quarter of an hour.
This novelty is not very well received by customers. If most of them understand the reason for installing the terminal, they say they no longer want to shop in the store.
“I won’t come anymore. I understand their motives but it’s shocking. I will go to the competitor”, was indignant one of them, before changing his mind: “It annoys me, but I will continue to come here, it is cheaper than elsewhere”, said she finally declared.
