“Alcohol has no place in a scout camp”, says one of the leaders of the scouts of Tangissart, in Walloon Brabant

The summer holidays have begun and with them, the installation of the scout camps. A moment of disconnection for participants that usually goes off without a hitch. But sometimes, it happens that the consumption of alcohol within the camp is at the origin of more or less serious accidents. So to avoid them, some municipalities such asAndenne, Bouillon, Chiny and Florentville have banned the consumption of alcoholic beverages.

A ban that the scouts of Tangissart, for example, did not expect. “There are definitely times when we celebrate”recognizes Sacha Defrère, animator responsible for the camp. “But the whole staff has decided that scout camp is not a time to consume alcohol. We are here to awaken the children, we have a responsibility.”

The Federation of Scouts for its part requires that “all the animators be permanently in full possession of their means when children are under their responsibility.”
