Alberta performed record number of organ transplants in 2022, AHS says

According Andreas Kramerintensive care physician and organ donation specialist at AHScritical care professionals have played an important role in increasing the number of donations.

He adds that a team of 22 specialist physicians spend part of their time training and consulting with health care teams to identify and care for potential organ donors.

A solution for people who no longer have any hope of recovery

Jan Clemis, former director of the Alberta office of the Canadian Transplant Association, recalls that organ donation extends the lifespan of people who no longer have any hope of recovery. Her son, Blair, donated one of his kidneys to her in 2018.

Although she no longer works for the Canadian Transplant Association, she continues to promote the importance of organ donation by volunteering for Green Shirt Day, which takes place on April 7th.

Humboldt Broncos hockey player Logan Boulet has inspired thousands of people to sign their organ donation cards.
