The Spanish Foreign Minister, José Manuel Albares, “completely” rejected the Israeli decision to prohibit the entry into his country of the Secretary General of the United Nations (UN), Antonio Guterres, and “the slander” leveled against him: ” “He is a good friend of Spain and, above all, he is a friend of peace.”
Albares, in statements this Wednesday on the private television network La Sexta, referred to the statements of his Israeli counterpart, Israel Katz, who announced this Wednesday that he had decided to declare the UN Secretary General persona ‘non grata’ and prohibit his entry into the country considering that he did not “unequivocally” condemn the Iranian attack on Tuesday and therefore accused him of supporting “terrorists, rapists and murderers.”
Rejection of violence
“We completely reject these slanders and this ban and we support, of course, the Secretary General of the UN,” the minister stressed.
Last night, Tuesday, minutes after the end of the attack, Guterres condemned “the growth of the conflict in the Middle East with one escalation after another” and reiterated the need for a ceasefire.
“This has to stop. We absolutely need a ceasefire,” he wrote without directly mentioning Iran.
