Albanian Cannabis Plantation Uncovered in Gilly: Arrest, Discovery, and Legal Troubles

On February 21, the Charleroi police zone received interesting information on paper, but to be checked on the ground. A possible Albanian network would have installed a cannabis plantation in a shed in Gilly. On the spot, the police actually note the presence of a smell of cannabis. Two days later, the police invade the premises and prove the veracity of their information.

6,000 euros for two months of work

The search in flagrante delicto allows the arrest of Mario and the discovery of two culture rooms fitted out on the spot and comprising a total of 750 cannabis plants. The man, originally from Albania, confirms having arrived in Belgium on December 20, 2022 and having been recruited to work in culture for two months. In exchange, a nice bonus of 6,000 euros was promised to him.

In the end, Mario has not touched a single euro and finds himself entangled in legal troubles. Imprisoned in Jamioulx, Mario confirms that he came to Belgian soil with the desire to work in construction and offer better living conditions to his relatives who remained in his native Albania.

An organization above Mario’s head

For the prosecution, a sentence of 18 months in prison is required. In defense, Me Colin hopes to obtain a simple reprieve for his client “duped” by an extremely well-organized organization which took him from Brussels to Gilly by blindfolding him and depriving him of his own mobile phone.

Judgment July 20.
