ALBA expresses its willingness to provide assistance to those affected by Hurricane Beryl

International.– The Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA) expressed this Wednesday the willingness to provide assistance to families affected by Hurricane Berylwith which he expressed solidarity, and to collaborate in “the restoration of daily life in the Caribbean countries.”

Through a statement, the organization “deeply” regretted the “human and material losses” and expressed its “unconditional solidarity with the Caribbean countries, members and non-members of this alliance, in the face of the devastating passage” of the hurricane.

ALBA, he continued, “joins the efforts of all the Governments of the Caribbean countries to address and repair the damage caused by Hurricane Beryl,” whose “unexpected evolution“It represents an example of the severe effects of the climate crisis and the need to work together to mitigate its consequences and provide a rapid response to the affected peoples.”

In this sense, “the creation” of the ‘Agency for Risk Prevention and Management’ of the bloc, as agreed at the summit held last April in Caracas, “is of special relevance,” added the organization, made up of Venezuela, Cuba, Nicaragua, Bolivia, Antigua and Barbuda, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Grenada, Dominica and Saint Lucia.

In northeastern Venezuela, at least 1,440 people in the town of Cumanacoa, Sucre state, are in “solidarity shelters” following losing their homes due to a river overflowing during the hurricane, according to authorities, who reported three deaths and five missing people.

The Dominican Republic and Haiti emerged almost unscathed from the hurricane, whose main effect on the island of Hispaniola, shared by both countries, was the strong waves that hit the Caribbean coast.

Nearly half a million people were left without water supplies due to the effects of the cyclone and thousands without electricity, according to the preliminary report on the damage.

Hurricane warnings include: Cayman Islands and the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula, while in Jamaica the Government declared the island a disaster zone for the next seven days.

Tropical storm warnings are also in effect for the coast of Belize in Central America.
