Six passengers of Alaska Airlines Flight 1282, which lost a piece of fuselage over Portland, in the northwest of the United States a week ago, announced Thursday that they would sue Boeing, the Seattle Times reveals and The Oregonian this Friday, January 12. They also filed a proposed class-action lawsuit in King County Superior Court in Seattle, claiming the 737 MAX manufacturer owes them and 165 other passengers compensation for injuries suffered during the incident.
One of the passengers said her head was shaken during the incident, resulting in a concussion, soft tissue injuries to her neck and back, and bleeding from her ear. She also claimed that her oxygen mask did not seem to be working. Two other passengers named in the complaint said they had difficulty breathing when the cabin was depressurized. One of them said they started to faint. Another passenger said he suffered a seizure following disembarking the plane, due to stress caused by the incident. The complaint also claims that many of the oxygen masks were not in working order.
A “nightmare experience”
“While everyone is happy that the accident occurred while the crew might still land the plane safely, this nightmarish experience has had economic, physical, and emotional consequences to this day. once more, which naturally deeply affected our customers”wrote lawyer Daniel Laurence, who represents the passengers, in a press release on Thursday.
The lawsuit is filed once morest Boeing, not Alaska Airlines, because according to the plaintiffs the aircraft manufacturer’s CEO Dave Calhoun admitted that the accident was the result of an “error” by Boeing.
