Alaphilippe injured in a fall near Liège-Bastogne-Liège

Julian Alaphilippe has in his fall at the Ardennes Classic Liège-Bastogne-Liège sustained a scapula fracture and pneumothorax.

The French world champion remains according to his team Quick-Step for observation in the hospital in Herentals, Belgium. Alaphilippe broke about 60 km before the finish in Liège in a mass crash on a descent, in which almost 30 other riders fell at high speed, as well as two ribs. His Belgian teammate Ilan van Wilder suffered a broken jaw.

The 29-year-old Alaphilippe has now fallen three times in two months. At the beginning of March he had a spectacular fall on the Strade Bianche, on April 13th he fell again at the Pfeil von Brabant, but without consequences. Last Wednesday at the Flèche Wallonne, the Frenchman finished 4th. “I saw Julian five or six meters down and that was an emotional shock,” said Romain Bardet after arrival, who was the first to help the world champion.
