Alan Hamel wrote a poem to his wife Suzanne, which she read the night before her death. «People» spoke to the Canadian entertainer’s publicist and he confirmed: “Alan gave it to her a day earlier, she read it and went to bed. She later died peacefully in her sleep.”
In his poem, Hamel writes, among other things, about how he experienced his love for Suzanne Somers over the years: “Together for 55 years, married for 46 and not an hour apart in 42 years. We’re sometimes in bed at six o’clock, holding hands. I have no words for this love, it doesn’t exist. Staring at your beautiful face while you sleep is not enough.”
He tries to find the right word in the lines to describe his wife. Or to describe his feelings, because according to Hamel, the word “love” is not good enough for Suzanne.
“I call it ‘us’”
“The students at Oxford University have tried to find a word for it for 150 years – and failed,” the 87-year-old continues. «So now I decide to call it “us”. Unique, magical, indescribable, beautiful, us.”
Suzanne Somers died on Sunday, October 15, one day before her 77th birthday. Her husband Alan and her son Bruce were there.
According to People, the family funeral will take place this week. A memorial service is planned for November.
