Alabama Shakes: Steve Johnson arrested for child molestation

Alabama Shakes’ drummer Steve Johnson is in custody following being charged with child abuse. He was taken into custody in Limestone County, Alabama, on Wednesday, March 24, 2021.

According to reports from theAssociated PressHe was charged with “the intentional torture, abuse and cruel beating or other intentional ill-treatment of a child under the age of 18”. The reading of the indictment is scheduled for April 7, 2021.

Steve Johnson had already pleaded guilty to a protective order violation last March. He was subsequently sentenced to one year in prison, with a 24-month suspended sentence.

Alabama Shakes has been on hiatus since 2018 as singer Brittany Howard focuses on her solo career. Her last album SOUND & COLOR was released in 2015.

So far, neither Howard nor other members of the band have commented on the incidents and Johnson’s arrest.
