During his visit, Al-Sudani held a series of meetings that focused on important files and issues, most notably the escalation in the region and the war on Gaza and Lebanon.
Al-Sudani concluded his meetings with the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, and discussed with him issues of joint action, developments in the situation in the Middle East region, and the Israeli attack on Lebanon and Palestine, and the major threat it poses to regional and international security and stability.
Al-Sudani also invited Guterres to visit Iraq and participate in the Arab Summit, which Baghdad will host in May 2025.
Al-Sudani said in his speech before the United Nations General Assembly that the Lebanese people are facing a new page of brutal aggression that seeks to flood the region with conflicts, stressing that Iraq, its government and its people, stand with Lebanon.
The Iraqi Prime Minister warned that the Israeli attack on Lebanon threatens the stability of the region by igniting a wide regional war.
Al-Sudani continued that Iraq seeks to achieve regional security and stability by creating constructive partnerships to confront common challenges.
Al-Sudani stressed that the “Development Road” project aims to transform Iraq into a major regional hub for trade and transportation, and to link the Middle East to Europe via Iraq, indicating that this project will serve the countries of the region.
