Al-Sisi and the Prime Minister of Palestine discuss calm efforts in Gaza

Egypt – Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi discussed, yesterday, Monday, with Palestinian Prime Minister Mohamed Mustafa, the ongoing efforts to reach a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

This came during their meeting in Cairo, according to a statement by the Egyptian presidency, in the first visit by the new Palestinian Prime Minister to Egypt since his appointment last March.

In the meeting, the Egyptian President welcomed the Palestinian Prime Minister, “wishing him and the new Palestinian government success in their efforts to achieve the aspirations of the Palestinian people.”

He stressed that “Egypt will always maintain its position in support of the Palestinian cause, until fair Palestinian rights are guaranteed in an independent, sovereign state on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.”

He stressed that “the meeting witnessed a review of Egypt’s intense efforts to reach a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, exchange detainees, and implement sufficient humanitarian aid to confront the crisis facing the Strip.”

The two sides stressed “the complete rejection of the displacement of Palestinians from their lands or the liquidation of the Palestinian cause,” warning of “continuing military escalation and the continued expansion of the circle of conflict,” according to the Egyptian presidency statement.

For his part, a statement issued by Mustafa’s office, Anadolu Agency, said that the Palestinian Prime Minister briefed the Egyptian President on his government’s priorities and developments in the field conditions in the West Bank.

He added that Mustafa briefed Sisi on “the government’s agenda and priorities, most notably stopping the aggression once morest our people, strengthening the effort to provide relief to our people in the Gaza Strip, the institutional reform program, and economic recovery.”

Mustafa also reviewed “the latest developments in the field situation in the West Bank, especially in Jerusalem, in light of the continued incursions of the occupation army, settler attacks, restrictions, barriers, and confiscation of lands for the benefit of settlement expansion.”

He praised “Egypt’s regional role and the efforts made with the brothers in the Arab group in defending the Palestinian cause in all international forums, and pushing towards a political horizon in order to end the occupation and find a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue, and embodying the establishment of the state on the ground on the 1967 borders with Jerusalem as its capital.” .

The statement conveyed the Egyptian President’s readiness to provide all means of support for the success of the work of Mustafa’s government “in order to serve the Palestinian people and achieve their aspirations.”

He stressed “the keenness to complete efforts to stop the aggression and reach an immediate and sustainable ceasefire, to preserve the lives of the Palestinian people and spare their blood, and that supporting the establishment of the Palestinian state and its embodiment on the ground is one of the constants of Egyptian policy.”

Al-Sisi stressed “making more efforts to bring more relief and humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip, increasing the number of relief trucks entering the Strip, and Egypt’s firm position rejecting the displacement of the Palestinian people from their land, especially the Gaza Strip.”

In a related context, Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly discussed with his Palestinian counterpart “the Egyptian efforts made to reach an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip,” during their meeting in Cairo, according to local media.

Last March, the new Palestinian Prime Minister, Muhammad Mustafa, officially assumed his duties from his predecessor, Muhammad Shtayyeh.

For 6 months, Israel has been waging a devastating war on the Gaza Strip that has left hundreds of thousands of victims, most of them children and women, in addition to an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe and a noticeable deterioration in infrastructure and property, according to Palestinian and UN data, which led to Israel appearing before the International Court of Justice on charges of committing “Genocide”.
